'How I sleep at night', Installation; illustrations. Studio Kura. For the 'Itoshima Arts Farm' festival, Itoshima, Japan (October 2018.)

Dreaming while awake, ‘How I sleep at night’ is about the artist healing their insomnia through art. The absolute calming of being immersed in the creative process, the state of mind achieved when putting pen to paper. Doing the work of dreaming. The exhibition, a part of the 2018 Itoshima Arts Farm festival, consisted of an installation made from string, like sagging, sleepy spider webs, and a series of illustrations of patterns and dots produced over the period of one month. The title, both a description and a confession; ‘This is how I sleep at night; the same as I wake. When I am free to create, to do the work I want to do - what my nature is to do - sleep so easy and calm I can’t even tell I’m dreaming.
